By examining the country's visual, literary, media, and performing arts, students gain a solid understanding of its rich cultural heritage and efforts made to maintain and promote this heritage through various political transitions. There will be a study trip to South Africa during the January winter break.
This is an interdisciplinary course open to all undergraduate students at New York University, as part of the Tisch Open Arts Curriculum. Most of the seminar will take place in New York, where students meet on a weekly basis for seminars led by Pari Shirazi, Ph.D., vice dean, Tisch School of the Arts, and special guest lecturers in New York and South Africa. As a special topics course, the class takes advantage of the theatre, film, television and other cultural events current in New York and in South Africa.
The program fee which includes airfare, accommodations and some meals is $1,925.
