Preparations for Summer Study Abroad with Tisch Special Programs
Once you are accepted into a Summer Abroad program, there is required paperwork you must complete prior to your departure. The following steps will prepare and guide you through the process for your semester abroad.
1. Confirm your participation
After you have received your acceptance notification, you must confirm your participation with the Tisch Special Programs Admissions Office. If you have not done so, please contact Tisch Admissions at 212-998-1512 or email at tisch.special.admissions@nyu.edu
2. Obtain a vaild passport
All study abroad programs require that you have a passport, and by now you should already have obtained a valid passport. You can review the passport requirements for Tisch Special Programs. Please remember that the U.S. Department of State may take up to six weeks to process your passport, although a two week rush service is available.
3. Apply for a Visa
While most summer study abroad programs do not require that you apply for a visa, there is certain site-specific travel paperwork you must complete for participation in the program. The admissions office will help you with the required paperwork. However, you should also review the visa requirements for your program.
4. Update your NYUHome account
All students studying abroad should make sure to update (and activate if you are a non-NYU student) your NYUHome account as soon as possible. Make sure your contact information is correct and make sure to check your email regularly, as important information concerning your program will be sent to you through this account. Non-NYU students will receive an email with instructions on how to set up a NYUHome account after their admission to the program.
5. Register for classes
Student Services at Tisch Special Programs will process all registration for your summer study abroad program. Please remember to clear your schedule and drop any New York courses to facilitate registration.
6. Attend Orientation
Attending the pre-departure orienation for any Tisch study abroad program is mandatory. Staff from Student Services at Tisch Special Programs will send you details about the event via email. Special arrangements will be made for students who do not live in New York and are not able to attend the orientation.
7. Book your flight
All students studying abroad in the summer will need to make their own travel arrangements. NYU does not organize any group flights. Please remember that summer tends to be a popular time to travel, so make your arrangements as early as possible. Details of your travel arrangements will be requested in the supplemental forms you will complete online. If your plans change, you must notify Student Services.
8. Complete ALL supplemental forms
All students traveling through NYU study abroad programs are required to submit various supplemental forms prior to departure. These forms are completed online and you should use the same log-in and password that you created when you originally applied to Tisch Special Programs. These forms can be accessed here. All mandatory forms are located under "Supplemental Forms," which include your housing request form for housing abroad. All students are required to live in NYU housing. Please keep in mind that you will not be able to check in to your housing abroad if your supplemental forms are not submitted.
