A City in Motion: Experimental Video and 3D Animation in Nice

  • July 6 - August 14, 2009

The program takes place in Villa Arson in the heart of Nice where students can meet European artists and produce their own content in a different cultural environment.

The Villa Arson is the national center for contemporary art in Nice and is well located for both work and living. Up-to-date labs and dorm facilities are provided. Each studio houses two students, and breakfast and lunch are provided. The villa and the dorms are inside an enclosed and safe compound. Equipment for the class, technical help and on site maintenance is also available at the Villa. Students meet with new media artists, video makers and filmmakers from Nice, other areas of Europe and the Mediterranean in order to explore and understand the cultural resources of this region. Several local partners including the City of Nice, Museum of Contemporary Art, Direction des Affaires Culturelles, movie studio Riviera, and high tech companies from Telecom Valley-Sofia-Antipolis will collaborate with the class.

Arts-related activities and field trips, such as contemporary film or performance festivals, visits to exhibits, or historic landmarks, are often incorporated into the program.
