About the Auditions
These auditions will allow you to experience the training that each program has to offer and to interact with the instructors who will be leading the program. We encourage you to audition for all drama programs and to also consider other programs being offered. It is possible that you can apply and audition for all programs and be accepted to them all. In this case, you would then select the program that best suits your needs. For information on all study abroad programs, please click here.

Scheduling Your Audition
Students who meet the requirements of the program, will be contacted by Tisch Special Programs to schedule an audition. Please note that audition notification and scheduling are done through e-mail. Students who use Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail and other web-based e-mail services must set a filter to have all mail with subject line "Tisch Special Programs" diverted to your Inbox. Otherwise, it may be sent to your Bulk Mail folder and likely be deleted.
Audition Requirements
Only students who apply, meet the prerequisites, and deadline may audition. The following materials must be submitted to our office no later than October 23. The materials may be submitted via the on-line application management system (before you submit your application), via e-mail (tisch.special.info@nyu.edu), by postal mail, or in person.
1. An acting résumé
2. A headshot or a photo with your face clearly visible, preferably in a high-resolution digital format such as JPEG or PDF.
3. A copy of two 2 minute-monologues and their synopses. Please follow these guidelines:
• RADA - two Elizabethan and/or Jacobean monologues of your choosing
Students Not Able to Attend Audition
If you are not in New York City or cannot attend the audition, please submit a video featuring your audition. The video must be received by October 12 and must be clearly labeled. Please notify our office at (212) 998-1512 or send an email to tisch.special.info@nyu.edu if you plan to submit a DVD or videotape. In addition to the materials listed above, you must submit your audition video with the required specifications listed below.
After performing two 2-minute monologues, the following questions should be answered:
1. What do you think are your strengths and weaknesses as an actor?
2. What is it about our program that will meet your training needs?
3. If you couldn't be involved with theatre, what else would you do?
Technical Guidelines
Please follow the guidelines listed below to prepare your video. We will not consider media that do not meet these guidelines.
1. We suggest that you send a DVD, but you may submit a videotape instead. If submitting a videotape, it should be 1/2 inch VHS (NTSC) format. This is the standard home-use format. Or, you may submit a DVD.
2. A full-body shot of the auditioner during the entire audition should be provided.
3. A quality video will enhance the audition. Fuzzy focus or poor sound is not to your advantage. Please watch your video before sending it in.
4. Do not send a "reel" of previous production or professional work.
5. Label your DVD/videotape with your full name and program of interest.
Helpful Audition Tips
1. When submitting a headshot:
• You should be the only one in the picture.
• The picture must show your face clearly.
• The picture size should be at least 4 X 6.
2. Be early or at least on time for the audition. Arriving late reflects poorly on you.
3. We advise that you dress comfortably.
• Wear appropriate fitting clothing that allows for movement and fluidity in your audition.
• Do not wear clothing that is too tight; you have to be able to move freely.
• Do not wear clothing that is too loose, falls off or has to be adjusted constantly.
• Do not wear clothing that is revealing or inappropriate.
4. During the First Round Audition, be prepared to do your 2-minute monologues.
• It is important that you have memorized both 2-minute monologues.
• Select a pieces that you would likely be cast in.
• You should also know the background story of the monologues you are choosing.
