This course is offered in collaboration with instructors from Ireland’s prestigious theatre and professional training institution Trinity College’s Samuel Beckett Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies. It provides experience in building a character as part of the process of creating a stage work in the great tradition of the Irish theatre.
Students are introduced to the use of games, acting exercises, monologues, and scene work to develop their basic acting skills. They are encouraged toward self-exploration and creative expression. Using texts written by Ireland’s renowned playwrights, this course examines the tools and techniques of the actor in performance through explorations of voice, speech, movement, text analysis, and scene study. Students exercise their imaginations, learn how to work as an ensemble, and develop a sense of their bodies as expressive instruments through improvisation and scene study.
