Fusion Film Festival Showcases Female Artists

Andrea Wong, left, and Michelle Malley-Campos

The Fusion Film Festival celebrates and showcases the work of NYU women directors and cinematographers at every stage of development and is the University’s only student-run film festival. Fusion organizers held a luncheon at the Tisch School of the Arts (TSOA) to announce its fourth annual festival.  The festival was held March 1-3, 2007.

The Nov. 17 invitation-only luncheon served as the kick-off event for the 2007 festival, and included guests Jill Burkhart (co-founder/executive director) and Mystelle Brabbee (artistic director) of the Nantucket Film Festival. Both women are TSOA alumnae and discussed the business of creating and running a film festival.

Organizers for the 2007 festival include Jennifer Orta, a senior majoring in cinema studies with a minor in journalism; Andrea Wong, a 2005 TSOA film and television alumna; and Michelle Malley-Campos, a TSOA senior majoring in film and television.

The fourth annual festival will comprise many events, including film screenings, panel discussions, a screenplay competition, and a new documentary pitch competition to industry professionals. Festival submissions eligible for awards may be made only by NYU graduate and undergraduate students or recent alumni and must have a woman director or cinematographer credited to the film.
