Performance Theatre-Making and Collaborative Theatre

SPRING 2009

H31.0942 • 8 POINTS.

Instructor: Warren Nebe.

Prerequisite: acting and/or creative/dramatic writing experience or equivalent.

Students complete the core module on Arts and Culture in Contemporary South Africa, and they select one additional companion course to complete a 16-point program.

This course is designed for performers as theatre-makers and collaborators with an interest of working alongside South African students. Students conceive and prepare a portfolio of performance and written work around a given topic relating to contemporary South African society. Students attend acting, voice, and movement classes as well as theatre-making rehearsals where a new work will be created. The culmination of this course is the presentation of a fully designed and staged performance in one of the Wits theatres. Students selecting this track are also expected to attend a writing seminar once a week, where a portfolio of writing in experimental and formal modes is explored. The writing forms an integral part of the final production.
