Prerequisite: Sight and Sound Studio or Sight and Sound Documentary or equivalent.
Prerequisite for Tisch Film and Television majors: Sight & Sound: Documentary plus Sight & Sound: Film or Sight & Sound: Studio.
Students complete an additional Independent Study Project and the core module on Arts and Culture in Contemporary South Africa and they select one further one further companion course to complete a 16-point program.
The program offers students interested in contemporary documentary a chance to make their own documentary in a unique setting. Students are required to research, produce, direct, and edit a documentary investigating an issue facing contemporary South African society. Students examine the history as well as the important national role of film and video in the independence and liberation movements of South Africa. In the 1980s, a great variety of anti-apartheid documentary films and videos were produced, and many of these films and videos are studied in relation to the project currently being produced.
