Eligibility
- Applicants must be undergraduate sophomores, juniors, or seniors during the 2009-2010 academic year and are expected to be in good academic standing.
- Applicants must have a 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA).
- Applicants must have a valid passport.
- Applicants must be willing to reside in NYU assigned housing.
- Applicants to the London drama program must attend on-campus auditions or submit a videotaped audition prior to the deadline.
Application Requirements
Apply using the online application. You will complete and submit the application, recommendation forms, résumé, personal statement and, if applicable, your film/topic treatments, headshots and monologue. Please note: all applicants are required to submit a personal statement (see below for more information).
All applicants must submit:

- Creative resume.
- Two recommendation letters (See below.)
- Official university transcript(s) submitted to our office. NYU students may submit an Albert transcript.
- NYU students are required to use their NYU email address.
- Non-NYU students should submit the $75 non-refundable application fee as directed in the online application
If any of the application materials are missing, you will not be considered for admission.
Personal Statement
Within the online application, upload an essay addressing the following questions. Be sure to include some specific examples, and please limit your response to three double-spaced pages.
- Describe your reasons for wanting to participate in this program.
- Explain your desire to visit the specific country and any coursework that you have completed that will complement this program.
Recommendations
Within the online application, please enter the names and email addresses of your recommenders. Your recommendations should come from academic representatives who are familiar with your performance in the field that you are applying. Note: Students should allow their recommenders 1-2 weeks to complete the recommendations. Applications that do not have completed recommendations by the application deadline date will be considered only on a case-by-case basis.
Once you submit a recommender's information, they are emailed nstructions on how to submit their online recommendations. If a recommender has trouble completing their online recommendation please have them contact our office. Students can track the recommenders’ progress through the online application system to see when the recommendations are completed.
Additional Application Requirements
- Shakespeare in Performance at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art applicants must provide a headshot and a text copy of two 2-minute monologues and synopses. This information should be uploaded to the “Photo/Image” and “Additional Information” pages of the online application system.
- Prague Directing applicants: Two 1-2 page treatments; one for an external location and one for an internal studio shoot. This is an MOS short story, so no sound equipment will be provided. Upload as “Additional Information” to the Documents section of the online application system.
- Havana Directed Research applicants: Submit two topic proposals. Your proposals should follow guidelines which we will provide to all Directed Research applicants. Upload as “Additional Information” to the Documents section of the online application system.
Interviews
Students who meet the requirements for our programs will be considered for an interview and audition (if applicable). Please note that consideration for an interview is also contingent on space availability, so you are encouraged to apply early. The interview is the final round of the admissions process. Students are contacted via email to schedule an in-person, telephone or video conference interview. Interviews are conducted from September-October for Spring semester programs and January-March for Fall semester programs.
Auditions
Applicants for Shakespeare in Performance at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and Irish Theatre Performance Workshop programs must audition. Interviews are conducted during the audition process. See Audition Dates and Details for complete information.

Notification Method
Final status notification is sent via email. Applicants for Spring semester will be notified no later than mid-November. Applicants for Fall semester will be notified no later than mid-April. You will be notified for your first choice program. Any secondary program choices will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
