H34.1054 • 8 POINTS.
Instructor: Orla Walsh.
Prerequisite: One semester of college-level Dramatic Writing or permission of the instructor.
Students select two additional companion courses to complete an 18-point program.
The aim of this intensive screenwriting course is to make students familiar with the craft of the screenplay and conscious of the script's crucial role in a film. Students develop a feature film script either based on an original idea or an adaptation. The course looks at classical structural theories as well as at more alternative forms of storytelling. Topics include how to create unforgettable characters, mythological narrative forms, and image systems. There are intensive one-to-one sessions on each project. The course takes a practical approach and is designed to equip the student for work in the film industry.
