Housing
All students participating in the Johannesburg program will be housed on campus with other Wits international and local students. You will be housed in International House which is located on the East Campus. This residence offers apartment style living, including a small kitchenette, bathroom/shower and bedroom.
There is Ethernet access in each apartment and a phone that only receives incoming calls. You will have some crockery and bedding provided to you. International House is a self-catering residence. It is up to you to buy your own food. There is a 7/11 convenience store on campus that supplies most basic food items and toiletry goods. The program loans each student two towels over and above those issued by the accommodation house. Your room also is supplied with a toaster and a pillow; these items belong to the NYU program and must be looked after and returned when vacating your rooms. Your room is cleaned twice a week by International House staff. Do not be surprised when they arrive to clean your room! They will also replace your bedding and International House issued towels.
Most students have budgeted about 80 RAND per day for food. Eating out is very inexpensive compared to New York. There is also campus bus transportation that operates from 7a.m. to midnight daily.
